What are the Airport's plans for the future? |
RETURN TO FAQ PAGE
The Airport has in place a 20-year Master Plan that the Authority updates every five years. This is an on-going assessment of the past, current, and future uses of the airport. It begins with a study of not only the airport but the community as well. We determine the growth patterns of the area, the demographics of our region, and patterns of use of our airport and surrounding airports plus much more. Based on those findings, we project future needs for the airport. These plans outline into the next 20 years what the Airport should do relating to its general aviation, commercial aviation, commerce park, marketing, growth, expansion, and its relationship to neighboring areas. The process involves meetings with the community that are advertised and promoted to the public. It includes business groups, government agencies, and it requires that we meet FAA guidelines as well as local comprehensive plans.
Recently, the Airport worked with the County in the development of the ECAP, the Enterprise Charlotte Airport Park. This area includes the 1800+ acres of the airport as well as a significant section of property surrounding the airport. (see the map, located on this page). The purpose is to enhance the the area as a commercial business destination and, since its implementation, it has been marketed and businesses are slowly approaching the area to establish and grow here. Even with the challenging economic conditions in the country, the Airport has been able to attract and support appropriate business development and expansion at the Charlotte County Airport Park and Punta Gorda Airport. At this time, there are hundreds of jobs, primarily in technology, manufacturing, engineering, and other similar jobs.
